Position Title/Location:
Senior Protocol Engineer / Calcutta
Reports To (Job Title):
Manager, SW Development
Purpose of the Job:
Understand and interpret telecommunication standard specifications (ETSI, 3GPP and more) and use Ixia development tools to implement protocols and deploy them on test products.
Coach/coordinate/lead junior protocol engineers in completing protocol development and testing projects.
Essential Functions:
Technical
* Read, understand and interpret Telecommunication Protocol specifications (ETSI, 3GPP)
* Ability to analyze Standard and non-standard (i.e. custom) specifications and interpret/translate them into technical requirements for Protocols
* Use Ixia Protocol development tools and methods to implement protocols based on the specifications
* Deploy protocols on Ixia Products and develop appropriate scripts and procedure libraries to drive them, as needed
* Lead/assist a team of junior engineers in completing Protocol projects
Communication:
* Interactions with development engineers, SE’s, field AEs and customers
Required Experience:
* Minimum 5 years experience in software development and telecommunication protocols
* Experience with implementing Text and binary protocols in 3G and Wireless
* Knowledge of various ASN.1 encoding rules, such as BER and PER
* Familiarity with basic data types for building Protocol Ies
* 3G/Wireless L3 and above protocol knowledge
* Experience as a team leader in small/medium scale development projects
* Experience with Telecom test industry
Necessary Skills:
* Excellent interpersonal, analytical, verbal and written communications skills
* Strong UNIX/Linux skills
* Experience with C/C++ required, Scripting with Csh, or tcl/tk strongly preferred
* Working knowledge of one or more source control systems – Perforce, RCS, CVS, or ClearCase.
