Principal Software Engineer
Working under minimal direction and exercising considerable latitude,provides technical expertise in developing solutions to complex software engineering problems, which require frequent use of ingenuity and creativity. Provides work leadership to others. Interfaces with senior management to provide and obtain information and to build consensus regarding project direction. Assignments may include new products as well as upgrades, and enhancements or fixes to existing products.
Principal Responsibilities:
* Design and implement new features for the common code used to support the Network Management software Suite.
* Analyze, design, implement and test fixes to address issues encountered in the product.
* Analyze, code and integrate complex modules with the overall solution.
* Strong customer focus and follow-through. Perseverance to get to the bottom of complex problems.
* Interface with other developers, QA, Documentation & Customer Support teams.
* Handle multiple problems and priorities.
* Write functional specification and design documents.
* Practice well-structured programming practices, unit testing & software documentation. Provide support for QA and Documentation efforts.
Experience & Skills:
* Strong Java based UI development skills (Java Swing, Flex, HTML,
XML)
* Experience in web based application development Knowledge of Tomcat/Servlet Experience with Perl, Awk scripting technologies Stong Unix skills Proven analytical, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
* Knowledge of proper debugging techniques.
* Understanding of software development lifecycle and best practices Understanding and/or experience with agile methodologies.
* Ability to perform in high stress, fast paced, customer driven software organization.
* Sense of urgency regarding customer reported issues.
* Demonstrates sense of ownership.
* Can-do and do-whatever-it-takes attitude Team player and comfortable working in a small team environment and working with cross discipline teams (RE, QA, DOC, etc.) and across time zones.
* Understanding of industry trends, latest technology trends, general interest in cutting edge technology.
